From the Guynanas to Colombia

Maybe one of the part of the trip that was the most brain damaging…

We had a perfect solution at start. We booked 2 flight tickets with from Paramaribo (Suriname), to Medellin (Colombia) through a 4 days stay over in Curaçao Island, in the Carabeean sea.

But that was base plan. Too simple… As of mid May, Insel Air had troubles with the IAA and all international flights were cancelled… No flight from Paramaribo to Medellin… New brainstorming…. How to get from the three Guyanas to Colombia, avoiding Venezuela. Well, after some thoughts, we had three options :

   – new flight, but much more expensive, through São Paulo… (1 day). (Note: For French Guyana, the only option was a layover in Paris CDG… :'( ).

    – by the Guyana, through the rain forest by land, via Georgetown, Boa Vista and Manaus. From there, boat or plane (plane was cheaper) to Tabatinga, the end of Brazil, walking in to Colombia, in Leticia. From there, there is no road to the rest of the country, so flying to Bogota or Medellin was the only way. (7 days, but unsure in the rainy season).

   – going back to Macapa, Brazil, and going all the way up the Amazon to Manaus. From there, boat or plane (plane was cheaper) to Tabatinga, the end of Brazil, walking in to Colombia, in Leticia. From there, there is no road to the rest of the country, so flying to Bogota or Medellin was the only way. (8-10 days).
